Editorial

Production Editor at Cicerone Press

From July 2019 to July 2021, I worked at Cicerone Press as an in-house editor producing travel guidebooks for outdoor activities. Working closely with authors, colleagues, and freelancers, I project-managing multiple books simultaneously from initial submission to final proofs. In this role, I wrote press releases, website articles, metadata, and back cover copy, utilising SEO tools and SEMrush Writing Assistant alongside author suggestions to showcase the content of each guidebook.

Guidebooks I managed through the editorial process include Hiking the Overland Track, Walking in the Peak District: White Peak East, Walking in the Peak District: White Peak West, Snowdonia Low-level and Easy Walks: South, Walking in the Scottish Borders, Hadrian’s Cycleway, Walking on Corsica, and Cycling the Reivers Route.

Alongside excellent in-house editorial training, I also completed two Publisher Training Centre courses: PTC Introduction to Editorial Skills (January 2020) and PTC Editorial Project Management (November 2020).

Poetry Editor at Patchwork Magazine

Between April 2018 and December 2019, I was the Poetry Editor at Patchwork Magazine. This literary magazine received submissions from across the world and combined poetry, prose, visual art and photography. Reading and reviewing all the poetry submissions, I collaborated with the editor-in-chief and my fellow editors to produce multiple editions of the magazine and championed the work of fantastic poets. Our final issue, ‘Roots’, was an environmentally-focused special featuring an editorial piece in which I explored our connection to nature via gardening and houseplants.

In addition to professional editorial work, I have also provided free editorial support – including line-editing and structural edits – to people preparing to submit to literary agents and writing prizes, alongside proofreading CVs, personal statements, and MA level dissertations.
